Synopsis
A mela (rural fair) means fun and festivity. Generally we know the Mela in this perspective. But in reality it is not a site of festivity alone. The feature film Kittonkhola portrays the diverse crisis of some individuals in the festive congregation. Rustam is a rebel in the gypsy group, who does not like the gypsy way of life anymore. He deeply longs for a new life and a new livelihood. Similar is the crisis with Dalimon. a gypsy maiden. She too looks up for a newer way of life. She nourishes a subtle wish to settle in life with Sonai, a laborer on the plains. Nevertheless she has regard for her own tribe and tribal profession. Idu Contractor is one of the central character. He grew up in terrible hardship and lately turned rich. He is a discontented soul demanding for more of power, property and things to enjoy. He exploits Banashree Bala, the main actress of a Jatradal (folk opera) engulfs the only piece of paddy field of Sonia. Actually, none could escape the tricky clutch of Idu Contractor. Banashree Bala, a prostitute turned into an actress by Rabidas is compelled to be a prostitute again; she fails to find any difference between good and evil in a opera party. Her dreams cantering Rabidas gets no ground. The love of Chaya Ranjan means nothing more than booze to Banashree Bala. Mentally trouble-torn Banashree Bala commits suicide. The Mela ends. The fleet of gypsy boats soil out for a new Mela somewhere else. But the only wretched individuals like soani, Bashir, Chaya Ranjan and Rustam displaced of their place and profession do not know what is ahed of them a path of light or darkness?
